Women's Regional Club League Finals.

The Women’s Regional League Club Finals took place on 23rd and 24th September at Bishop’s Stortford CC.

Saturday 23rd September

Finchley Gunns, Newport, Saxton and Walmley as winners of their respective leagues met at Bishop’s Stortford CC to contest the national final.

The poor weather conditions experienced earlier in the week made batting difficult in the semi-finals, defending champions Finchley Gunns being bowled out for 59 with Newport’s Ella Reed taking 4/15 and Nicole Reid 3/16, Newport then reaching the total for the loss of 2 wickets. In the second semi Saxton were all out for 107 with Rachel Hildreth contributing 30, tight bowling from Walmley’s Becky Grundy 3/9 and Georgia Davis 2/15. Walmley batted sensibly in reply with Grace Ballinger scoring 23 in a total of 109/5 enabling Walmley to reach the final for a second successive season.

Sunday 24th September - 3rd & 4th play off

On a beautiful sunny day Finchley Gunns put the previous day’s batting performance behind them and were finally all out in the last over making 173 with strong performances from Catherine Dalton 30 and India Whitty 44. Saxton struggled in reply, despite captain Hannah Buck leading the way with a well-made 30, and were all out for 52 with Danni Warren taking 2/9.

Sunday 24th September - Final

Walmley won the toss and took to the field and immediately put Newport under pressure with a wicket with the first ball of the match. Despite this Newport didn’t panic, Charlotte Scarborough scored 30 in a reasonable total of 132/9, Georgia Davis took 2/22 and Grace Ballinger 3/11. Newport soon applied pressure at the start of the Walmley reply restricting them to 13/2 however a match winning unbroken 3rd wicket partnership of 122 between Marie Kelly,58, and Thea Brookes,63, won the final for Walmley.
